The Animated Series' Creator Is Aware of Your Second Season Predictions β With Some Good News
The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions β but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. [β¦] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season β particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
